The Hudson River Valley
Cruising the historic Hudson River is a unique way to view the beauty and experience the history of both the river and the country. In addition to viewing the marvelous sites as you cruise, the Hudson River gives you access to a number of activities and places to visit.
The Hudson Valley is home to some of the most visited sites in America. You won’t want to miss a tour of the US Military Academy at West Point or Olana- the home of Hudson River School Painter Frederic Church, dinner or stay at the Mohonk Mountain House, the gourmet delights of the Culinary Institute of America, or the happenings and sights of our state capital, Albany.
Plan to take in any one of the farmer’s markets, events, fairs and festivals which abound in the Hudson Valley. Our charming villages boast antique treasures and unique shops, museums, art galleries, world-class restaurants and delicious farm-to-table dining as well as a wide variety of lodging options.
The NYS Canal System
For those boaters traveling the NYS Canal System, Donovan’s Shady Harbor Marina is the perfect provisioning spot before you enter the Erie Canal or after you exit the canal…we even sell canal passes! Download your Recreation Vessel Pass Application here!
Located just 15 nautical miles from the Erie Canal, Shady Harbor Marina is the first full-service marina upon departure from the canal.
Boasting a unique Ship’s Store and Gift Shop, renovated waterfront dining, an air conditioned bath house, and on-site laundry, and ValvTect gas and diesel, Shady Harbor is the perfect place to recharge your internal batteries and provision before you continue your trip along the Hudson.
If our fully-stocked convenience store doesn’t have something you need, please feel free to borrow our courtesy car to do some off-site provisioning. Be sure to stop in before continuing your trip, the Donovan’s have traveled the waterways extensively on their own boat and can offer some sound advice. We are also proud to be a sponsor of America’s Great Loop Cruiser’s Association.
After entering the lock you can explore the Erie Canal all the way to Buffalo on Lake Erie, take the Oswego Canal to Lake Ontario or head North through the Champlain Canal and over to the St. Lawrence Seaway.
