New York State’s law requires boating safety certificates of all persons operating a mechanically propelled vessel. There is no better time to sign up to take a boater’s safety course. Shady Harbor Marina will be hosting a course on premise on May 31.

Attendees who successfully complete the 8 to 9 hour program will receive the New York State Boating Safety Certificate issued by New York State Office of Parks and Recreation.

The course will be offered on Saturday May 31 from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. The NYS final exam will be given during the last hour of the class. There is no charge for the course. For attendees age 18 and older, there is a fee of $10.00 payable to NYS Parks and Recreation for the issuance of the permanent certificate.

The course is highly recommended for all boaters in order to increase knowledge of boating and boating related activities. Attendees must be 10 years of age or older. The course is open to the public.

Lead instructors for the course are Bill Palmer and Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy John (J.R) DelVecchio. Both are certified instructors for the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation and have many years of boating experience.
